Spirit Week Reminder, Shhhhh....Knight Ray Deliveries, League Meet Details

Benicia Stingrays

Hi Team,

This is it!!!!  We have made it to the last week of our regular season!  A huge thank you to our coaches and junior coaches for all of the work they have put in this season.  Let's put in the extra work this week so our swimmers can make it all happen at League Champs on Saturday!

Spirit Week and Coaches' Appreciation Reminder, July 24-July 28!!!!

  • Volunteers Still Needed!!!!   Please visit the website to sign up for a slot!!!
  • As we prepare for League Meet, we want to pump our swimmers up.  Here is the schedule for Spirit Week.  Note that swimming in drag means to swim with a shirt on....this creates resistance in the water to make them feel so light and fast when they swim on Saturday at League Champs!
    • Monday:  Wear Red, White & Blue as part of your drag week apparel to show team spirit
    • Tuesday:  Tank Top Tuesday - wear a tank top as part of your drag week apparel
    • Wednesday:  Wacky Wednesday and Coaches' Appreciation Day--choose the wackiest clothing to wear in the pool for drag week
    • Thursday:  Tropical Tie Dye and Coaches' Appreciation Day- bring a white t-shirt, tank top, or socks to tie dye at the pool during practice
    • Friday:  Donuts and PJs--wear your pjs to conclude drag week and celebrate with donuts during practice
  • Please note that Wednesday and Thursday will also be Coaches' Appreciation Day.  We will have out collection bags for all of our junior and adult coaches.  Have your swimmer draw them a picture, write them a thank you note, give them a tasty treat, drop in a tiny gift card....anything to make them feel loved and appreciated!  Remember that chocolate will melt as it sits out in the hot sun!!!
  • Our Junior Coaching Staff include:  Ava, Claire, Eli, Evan D., Evan M., Janessa, Joshua, Kate, Lily, Luca, Mason, Pierce, and Violet
  • Our adult and age group coaches include:  Head Coach Mariska; Assitant Coaches Miguel, Brian, and Elias; and our Age Group Coaches Carmela and Inessa.

Knight Ray Deliveries

  • Our 13 and up swimmers (aka the Knight Rays) have been meeting weekly to motivate our younger Stingrays for League Meet!!!
  • Beginning around 4:30 pm on Thursday, July 27th, our Knight Rays will be making special deliveries to all of our 12/under Stingrays' homes.  If you are home, please have your swimmer come to the door.  If they are not home, please check your porch when you come home for a special surprise.
  • Shhhh....don't tell your swimmers the Knight Rays are coming!  We want it to be a surprise!!!

League Meet Info

  • We still have our dual meet against Pleasant Hill on Wednesday, but for all of you planners out there, here is the info for League Meet that we have so far.
  • Date
    • Saturday, July 29th
  • Time
    • There is not an official opening time but the gates are usually open by 6:30AM.  The meet starts at 8:30 and usually finishes around 4:30.
  • Location
    • American Canyon High School, 3000 Newell Drive, American Canyon
  • Team Camp
    • Here is the team camp map.  We get about 1 1/3 basketball courts.  Please be respectful and do not use more than our allotted portion of Ahi's court.
  • Power Breakfast
    • Please drop off your potluck items at the breakfast table as soon as you arrive at camp.  The tables will be set up in the walkway between the Stingray and Hercules (HPST) camps.  Here is the link to the signup genius if you would like to donate some food.  We still need ice chests loaded with ice if you have one sitting around.
  • Warmups
    • We will warmup from 7:15-7:30 in all of the lanes
  • Events
    • Coaches will assign swimmers to up to 3 individual events and 2 relays. For families who have never attended an invitational or League Meet before, the check in process is a little different than for regular dual meets.   Swimmers must check in for their swim about 15-20 minutes before their event at Clerk of the Course (see team camp map).  This means you must be aware of who is currently swimming so you can get your swimmer to Clerk at the appropriate time.  The volunteer parents at Clerk will then guide your swimmer into rows of chairs and have them sit, in order, with their heat, until it is their turn to swim. Parents are not allowed past the check in table at Clerk of the Course (but if you have little ones, you can stand outside the roped off chair area so you can still easily see them).  When it is their turn to swim, the volunteer parents will then guide the swimmers onto the pool deck and get them to the appropriate lane to swim their event.
  • Volunteer Assignments
    • ALL FAMILIES (even those that bought out of their regular volunteer jobs, those with only 15/up swimmers, and core/board members) will be assigned a volunteer job.  Instructions for volunteer jobs will be sent out shortly.  You must check in for your volunteer job with Jen Smith as soon as you arrive at the pool to confirm that you know your job and shift.  Jen is mom to Junior Coach Claire, and swimmers Conor (12) and Kieran (11).  Her tent will be near the breakfast table.
  • Programs
    • A meet sheet will NOT be emailed out.  The program is available for purchase for a nominal fee the morning of the meet.  They will be $5.  There is a limited number available and it will be CASH only.
    • The meet is usually available on Meet Mobile (downloadable app with a nominal  annual subscription fee); Meet Mobile will get you the results of each event usually within about 10-15 minutes of the event occurring.  Most big meets are on Meet Mobile, so if you attend the invitationals, it just makes sense to subscribe to it.
