Tri Counties Swim League Parent and Spectator Code of Conduct
Benicia Stingrays Swim Team

As parents, guardians, coaches, and spectators, we represent the Benicia Stingrays and the Tri Counties Swim League. Our words and actions reflect on our team and help shape every swimmer’s experience.

This Code of Conduct promotes a safe, positive, and respectful environment. It applies to all Stingrays practices, swim meets, invitationals, team activities, social outings, and team-related communications, including email, group messages, and social media.

As a parent or guardian, I agree to the following:

1. Respect Officials, Coaches, and Volunteers
I will treat officials, coaches, meet staff, and volunteers with courtesy and respect. I will respect their responsibilities and decisions and will not argue with, berate, or confront them during practices or meets. Questions or concerns will be raised respectfully through the appropriate team contact, at an agreed-upon time and place. Immediate safety concerns should be reported promptly.

2. Respect All Swimmers
I will encourage swimmers of all abilities and help create an environment where every child feels welcome and supported. Neither I nor my guests will engage in booing, taunting, bullying, harassment, discriminatory remarks, or profane language or gestures.

3. Support My Child Positively
I will remember that swimming is for the children and that enjoyment, effort, learning, and personal growth matter more than results. I will not ridicule, shame, or punish my child for mistakes or performance. I will celebrate effort, fair competition, teamwork, and progress, and allow coaches to coach.

4. Show Good Sportsmanship Toward Every Team
I will be gracious in both victory and defeat. I will treat all teams, swimmers, coaches, officials, families, and guests with respect. I will model the same sportsmanship and self-control that I expect from my child.

5. Respect Facilities and Follow Event Rules
I will follow pool, facility, team, and meet rules, including instructions from staff and designated volunteers. I will respect shared spaces and equipment, clean up after my family, and help keep events safe and welcoming.

6. Take Responsibility for My Guests
I will share these expectations with anyone I invite to a team event and help ensure that my guests follow this Code of Conduct.

7. Address Concerns Constructively
I will bring concerns directly and respectfully to the appropriate coach or team leadership. I will avoid personal attacks, rumors, and public criticism directed at swimmers, families, coaches, officials, or volunteers, including in online communications.

8. Review the Athlete Code of Conduct With My Child
I will review the Athlete Code of Conduct with my child before the season begins and ensure they understand the expectations for their behavior. If an issue arises during the season, I will revisit the code with my child and work with coaches and team leadership to address the concern and reinforce appropriate behavior.

Accountability and Disciplinary Action

I understand that failure by me or my guests to follow this Code of Conduct may result in disciplinary action by authorized team or league leadership, consistent with applicable policies. Depending on the seriousness or repetition of the behavior, consequences may include:

  • A verbal warning.

  • A written warning, with documentation of the incident kept on file.

  • Removal from a practice, meet, or team event.

  • Suspension from attending one or more meets or team activities.

  • Suspension from attending events for the remainder of the season.

Serious misconduct may result in immediate removal or suspension without a prior warning.

Acknowledgment

By accepting this Code of Conduct online, I confirm that I have read, understand, and agree to follow it. I understand that these expectations also apply to my guests and that I am responsible for reviewing the Athlete Code of Conduct with my child.
