Swim Team 2025!!!

Swim Team is for swimmers, aged 4-18, who enjoy competing against other recreational swim teams, improving strokes, and making friends.  It is a great environment to gain fitness, strength, and discipline.  We expect all swimmers to participate in as many meets as possible.  We understand that family events may require you to miss a meet here or there, but this is a competitive team and ALL swimmers are expected to compete. Swimmers can't get faster if they don't practice competing!  Regardless of how many meets your swimmer participates in, the volunteer requirement is the same for all parents (see below).  ALL families are expected to attend our League Championship Meet on Saturday, July 26, 2025.

 

Spring and Summer is considered "one season" so you register and pay once. Your registation fees will cover both Spring and Summer practices and all dual meets/League Championship Meet.  Invitational meets do have additional fees associated with them.   

 

Age requirements:   Swimmers 4-18 year olds are encouraged to sign up for the team!  Age is determined by the swimmers's age on June 15th.  If a swimmer turns four after June 15, they must wait until next year to register.

 

8/under Requirements 

  • For NEW families joining the team, we will now require all 8/under swimmers to complete a tryout (Date TBD).  During this tryout, swimmers will be expected to:
    • ​Swim halfway across the pool unassisted
    • Put their face in the water
    • Float on their back
    • Please note that for this year, these requirements and tryouts will not apply to returning families with new 8/unders joining the program.  
    • Registration will begin BEFORE tryouts can occur.  If you believe your swimmer will pass the test, please register them to ensure their place on the team.  If your swimmer does not pass tryouts, we will refund your registration fee MINUS a $25 processing fee (so be fairly certain your swimmer can swim half of a lap, or 12.5 yards, before registering them).  
  • 8/Under Program Goal
    • ​Our goal is to shift the 6/under and 7/8 programs towards fostering a competitive age group, rather than providing swim lessons for first time swimmers.  We believe this change will better support the development of our youngest athletes.

Team Enrollment Cap

  • 6/unders 30 swimmers (15 girls and 15 boys)
  • 7/8s 40 swimmers (20 boys and 20 girls)
  • Total Team 180 swimmers

 

Where

  • Home meets and practice are held at James Lemos Pool, 181 East J Street, in Benicia
  • Away meets are held at various facilities within Contra Costa and Napa Counties. 

 

Registration: 

  • Early Bird Registration opens February 1, 2025 at 9am and closes February 15, 2025 for returning families only
  • Regular Registration begins February 16, 2025 at 9am for new and returning families
  • Early Bird Pricing:  $425 (ages 4-14), $250 (ages 15-18)
  • Regular Pricing: $475 (ages 4-14), $250 (ages 15-18)
  • $35 discount for each sibling AFTER the first registrant

Registration Cancellations by Parents: 

  • Any registration cancellation prior to the start of the first practice will be refunded in full, minus a $25 processing fee per swimmer.
  • Cancellations after the first practice, but up through the Monday after Time Trials (Monday, May 19th), will be refunded at 50% of the registration fee minus a $25 processing fee.  
  • Cancellations after Monday, May 19th will not be refunded at all. 
  • Any checks returned due to insufficient funds will be charged a $25 fee

 

City/County/State Mandated Shutdowns:   We do not see this happening, but if there is a sudden turn with the state of COVID (or any other natural or man-made disaster), and we are required to end our season, we will do our best to provide refunds with the following schedule (as a team, we still have fixed expenses that must be met, even if the season is cut short):

  • Season is canceled before the start of the season:  100% refund minus our credit card processing fees
  • Season is canceled after the start of the season but before Time Trials:  75% refund minus credit card pocessing fees
  • Season is canceled after Time Trials but before June 1st:  50% refund minus credit card processing fees
  • Season is canceled after June 1st but before July 1st:  25% refund minus credit card processing fees
  • Season is canceled after July 1:  No refunds

The above refund schedule is only for mandated shut downs.  They do not apply to individual families who have a change of heart or decide to withdraw their swimmer due to personal illness, beliefs, etc. 

 

Practice Schedule:  Refer to the 2025 Season Calendar for the practice schedule for spring and summer.  

 

Meets:  Meets will occur on some Wednesday afternoons and most Saturday mornings.  Occasionally there will be a Sunday invitational meet.  See the Season Calendar for the most up to date meet schedule (subject to change).  We expect all swimmers and families to be present at our League Championship Meet on Saturday, July 26th at American Canyon High School.  Please do not schedule your family vacation during this week!

Volunteer Requirements:  Parent Volunteer Requirements can be found under the "Volunteer" Tab on the front page.  We can not function as a swim team without a lot of parent involvement and help.    Invitationals, League, and County Meet have separate volunteer requirements from the regular season requirements.  Please note that you can not sign up for volunteer jobs until your registration has been confirmed and finalized.  This will take 48-72 hours after you have submitted your registration application.  Once you receive the confirmation email, you may then sign up for your volunteer jobs.  Meet volunteer jobs are ready to be signed up for.  Social event jobs will be added as the season progresses.
