Meet Season is Starting Soon!!!!

Benicia Stingrays

Hi Team!

We are almost at the start of Meet Season!  Yay!!!!  As such, here are some reminders or new info for new families!

Team and Individual Photos

  • Photos will occur on Friday, May 17th in the late afternoon/early evening.  Taking photos the day before Time Trials will allow more time to complete all of the events at Time Trials.
  • Photo envelopes will be placed in the individual folders of the Family Folder Cart soon.  You will get a NewsSplash when this is done.
  • For new families, the Family Folder Cart is a wheeled black cart with a file folder for each family.  When we have notices to distribute, they will be placed in the Family Folders.  Awards from meets will also be placed in the Family Folders for swimmers to pick up during practice.  The Family Folder Cart will get wheeled out every day and placed on the pool deck, near the green recycle bin/Lane 0 of the pool.
  • We need a few families to assist with swimmer/crowd control at team photos.  This could fulfill one of your two required social jobs.  Please sign up on the website if you can help (instructions for job signups are at the end of this splash).
  • Swimmers should wear their team suits to both photos and Time Trials.  If they do not have a team suit, black or blue suits will blend in the best.  If they don't have this, they can wear any suit and still participate.

Time Trials/Meet Registration

  • Time Trials is our first meet of the season.  It will take place on Saturday, May 18th.  The pool will open at 7:30 am and the meet will end around noon-ish.
  • All swimmers are encouraged to participate in Time Trials.  It is a low stress way for the swimmers to get their base times for the season and experience a meet environment.  There is no opposing team.  Time Trials is just as important to our parents as it is to our swimmers, as you too need to learn how to read a meet sheet, how to volunteer, how to get your swimmer to the correct location for their swims, etc.
  • If you have a 6/under who is not comfortable swimming on their own, no worries.....we will have junior coaches present who can hop in the water with them to safely assist them across the pool.
  • Any swimmer who wants to participate in any meet must be registered on the website at least one week in advance of the meet.   Once the deadline to register has passed, you can no longer register to compete.  The coaches need time to make their meet entries and it is very cumbersome to enter swimmers after the deadline.
  • The deadline to commit to Time Trials is Saturday, May 11th.  Here are instructions for how to commit to a meet.
  • At Time Trials, swimmers will compete in all of the individual events that they are capable of swimming.  There are no relays.  For future meets, the coaches will put your swimmer in 2-3 individual events and they may be assigned to relays if their times make the cut.  The individual events will be freestyle, breaststroke, butterfly, and back stroke for all swimmers and also the individual medley for swimmers  7 and up.
  • The coaches will not enter your swimmer in a stroke that they do not know how to swim.  If they are entered in an event that they do not feel comfortable swimming, just let Coach Mariska know.

Time Trials Volunteering

  • Remember all non-core and non-board member families must work 4 regular meets and 2 social events (except for families with ONLY 15/older swimmers).
  • We still have many jobs available for Time Trials.  Please sign up ASAP so that our volunteer coordinators don't have to stress over finding workers!
  • The majority of the jobs are for timing.  This is an EASY job!!!  You either start and stop a stopwatch, or you just hit a button once your swimmer touches the wall.  This is a great way for you to earn your volunteer credits and help out our team.  Swim meets can not happen without 100% of our parents participating!!!
  • Remember, if you miss a volunteer job, this creates chaos and stress for all involved, particularly our volunteer directors.  If you miss a job, your volunteer deposit will be taken from you and you must repay the deposit of $150 before your swimmer will be allowed to participate in future practices or  meets.  We WILL be charging this fee beginning with Time Trials.  If you have a legitimate reason for missing an assigned shift, please email volunteer@bsrswim.org and beniciastingrays@bsrswim.org BEFORE your shift begins.
  • To sign up for a job, make sure to first log in to the website. Click on the "Events and Meet" tab.  Once the meets are listed, find the meet/event you would like to work at.  Click the "Job Signup" button and then select your shift--check the box of your desired shift and then scroll to the bottom of the page to select "submit".
