IMPORTANT: Measure B Information

Benicia Stingrays

Hi Team,

Coming up on the March 5th ballot will be a vote on Measure B.

As you are aware, Benicia is in a budget crisis.  This is due in part to our aging population, low property tax revenue due to the low turnover of Benicia homes, low tax income from Benicia businesses (we don't have a large Target, Walmart, etc), and lack of land that can be used to develop tax-generating businesses.

"The City has already cut 5% of its workforce and nonessential programs and services. Without Measure B, the City could have to cut one-third of its workforce – the firefighters who respond to emergencies, police officers who patrol our neighborhoods and keep us safe, the people who keep our parks clean, and staff that provide quality programs and services for children, families, and seniors. Cuts of this magnitude would have a significant impact on safety and quality of life in Benicia.

Voting YES on B provides locally controlled funding to ensure fast 9-1-1 emergency response times, sustained numbers of first responders serving Benicia, maintained parks and recreational facilities (this includes the James Lemos Pool!!!), support for our library and its programs, and preservation of wildfire prevention (including goat grazing!) and emergency planning."

We are asking all of you to educate yourself (and your Benicia friends and families) regarding Measure B.  A yes vote may save the pool from permanent closure next year. A no vote could result in the pool's closure, effectively giving the Stingrays nowhere to practice or host meets (thus an end to the Stingrays).

If you agree that the city needs Measure B to pass, consider ordering a sign from www.protectbenicia.org to display in front of your home, hosting an informational meeting in your garage for your neighbors, etc.  In a town as small as Benicia, EVERY VOTE COUNTS, so PLEASE remember to vote on March 5th!!!
