NewsSplash 2/21/2025: Suggested Equipment List, Open Board/Core Positions, One More Lap
Hi Team,
We are busily getting ready for the start of the new season! It's hard to believe that practices will begin in a little more than one month!!!
As we prepare for the upcoming season, here are a few updates.
Suggested Equipment and Gear:
All swimmers should come to practice on time (5 minutes early), suited up, capped, and ready to go. In the next month, please make sure your swimmer has not outgrown their old suits and fins. So that you can prepare, here is a list of what all swimmers should have:
- Suits: Have at least 2-3 suits as they will be in the water daily (girls should wear appropriate practice suits; boys should wear jammers, which look like bicycle shorts, or Speedo type briefs)
- Fins: All swimmers 7 and up should have fins. Most swimmers have their own set but we have a limited number of various sizes available on the pool deck to borrow. Do not take these home
- Goggles
- Caps: All swimmers with longer hair should wear a cap; most swimmers wear a cap regardless
- Kickboards: Every practice utilizes boards; we have plenty for use on the pool deck. Do not take these home.
- Towels: They will just need one towel for practice, but it is helpful to have multiple towels for swim meets as they are in and out of the pool many times in one meet.
We do have a team store at Swim Outlet. If you purchase items here (versus Amazon), the team gets a small percentage of every purchase.
Open Board and Core Positions (with more to come shortly!!!)
Meet Director
- Our fearless meet director for the past few years has been Leslie Clements. She single handedly knows the computer system and keeps our meets running smoothly. We are looking for someone to shadow her this year with the goal to take on the meet director position next year. Any interested person should have a minimum of 1-2 years of swim meet experience under their belt and be comfortable directing a team of people.
- This is a Board Position so attendance at monthly team meetings is also a requirement once fully on board.
Invitational Coordinator
- We are also in need of an invitational coordinator. This person should be a very organized person and have a swimmer who attends Battle of the Ages, ECI, and League Championship Meet. You may also help coordinate Otters 8/Unders, but if you do not have an 8/under swimmer, Jeanne Woodford will help coordinate this meet with you.
- The invitational coordinator works closely with the coaches and treasurer to ensure payments have been made by families, ensures payments are delivered to the host teams, organizes entries for the coaches, and manages the volunteer schedule for the invitational weekend.
- This is a Core Position. This does not require attendance at board meetings and does completely fulfill your meet and social job requirements for the season.
- This season, you would work with Jill Magno to learn the role, with the goal to fully take on the position next season.
