Open Core and Board Member Positions, Team Store Update

Benicia Stingrays

Hi Team!!!

It's hard to believe that our swim season will start at the end of this month!  Who's getting excited???!!!

As we prepare for the season, we need to accomplish some less exciting business stuff.  But before we do that, just a quick note that our Stingray Team Store at Swim Outlet has new branded Stingray gear.  Check it out and place your order now so that items arrive before the start of the season!!!  Even if you want non-branded gear, please purchase through the link as the team will get a small percentage of every purchase made!!!

Many of our board and core volunteers have kids aging out of the system.  Parents of 15/up swimmers are not required to volunteer (though, thankfully, most of them still do).  As such, we need to get some new families into critical roles so that the team remains sustainable in the coming years.  Please read the list below and think if your family can fulfill one of these roles.  All board and core volunteer positions completely fulfill your volunteer requirement for the season (with the exception of invitational meets and League Championships, where ALL families are required to volunteer).

Stroke and Turn Judges This is the most critical role we must fill.  This is a core position.  We need parents who can attend Stroke and Turn training (at American Canyon High School on Saturday, April 26 from 8:00am-11:30am) and then work as meet officials.  Learning the official rules of swimming can help you help your swimmer!  We need any parent who has had a swimmer on the team for more than 1-2 years to step up to fill this role.  Many thanks to John Freytag and Gabe Salindong, who have served as Stingray judges for MANY years.  Their kids are aging out of the volunteer requirement at the end of this season.  We need new families to step up and serve so John and Gabe can take on a lesser role next season if they desire.  John and Gabe will be an invaluable resource for you to learn this role.

Meet Director:  This is a board member position.  The board meets monthly, year round, to plan the swim season.  A lot goes on behind the scenes to keep this team afloat.  You will have first-hand access to the coaches and play a large role in team decisions.  The meet director is only responsible for running our home meets.  You are free to be a normal parent at away duel meets.  This year, you will shadow current Meet Director, Leslie Clements, so that you are ready to take over next season.

Treasurer:  This is a board member position.  You will work with our current treasurer, Eli Gelardin, to receive payments,  make payments, balance the budget, etc.  Knowledge of Quick Books is a huge bonus!!!

Invitational Coordinator:  The invitational coordinator is a core position.  You should be very organized and have a swimmer who attends Battle of the Ages, ECI, and League Championship Meet. You may also help coordinate Otters 8/unders and Jeanne Woodford will be present at the meet to assist if you do not have an 8/under.  You work closely with the coaches, treasurer, and host team to ensure all payments are made, proof of insurance is provided, and entries are organized for the coaches to enter into the computer.  You will also manage the volunteer schedule for the invitational weekend.  This year, you will shadow Jill Magno (who is not the invitational coordinator but is filling in as needed) so that you are ready to take over next season.

Shepherds:  Are you good at herding cats?  If so, this job is for you!  This is a core position.  You and one other shepherd will work with your assigned age group to organize the littlest Stingrays to get them to their lanes and heats in an orderly fashion at meets.  We currently need one 6/under boy shepherd and one 7/8 girl shepherd.  You will work both home and away duel meets for this role.  This is a great job for a parent of littles because you ONLY work when your age group is swimming.  The rest of the meet, you are free to hang out in camp with your kids.

Head of Snack Bar (Summer):  Our snack bar was a huge hit last summer!  Not only did it raise money for the team, but the swimmers were always so excited to purchase a fun snack after working so hard in practice. Our goal is to have the snack bar open for two practices per week and all home meets.  We have a spring snack bar coordinator and are looking for someone to run the snack bar during the summer only.  To qualify for summer, you should be able to open and run the snack bar on two consistent days per week, from 10:30am-12:30pm.  You will also be responsible for setting up and taking down the snack bar at home meets, but you are not responsible for being at the snack bar during swim meet hours. Food ordering and purchasing are not your responsibility.

Thanks Team!!!  GOOOOOOOOO Stingrays!!!
