Season Updates: Team Suit Fittings, Core Positions (Knightrays), Welcome Session Link, One More Lap Signup Genius, Tryout Reminder, Parent Age Group Leaders

Benicia Stingrays

This is a big Splash with a lot of information!

Team Suit Fittings

  • Every season, we learn new things about the team suits.  There were things with last year's brand that we didn't love, so we are trying something new this year!
  • Through Swim Outlet, we will offer two team suits, a more economical suit made by Sporti and a higher end suit made by TYR.  Both suits will have the same design and will look very similar.  You choose which brand you want.
  • Fitting Dates and Times:  Tuesday, April 7 - Thursday, April 9 from 4:00-6:30 PM
  • Location:  James Lemos Pool
  • Try to come before practice for fittings as your swimmer should be dry when they try on their suit.
  • You need to place your order online (link to be provided) by Sunday, April 12th.  This will guarantee arrival by May 11th before team pictures and Time Trials
  • You can order suits later, but they will not be guaranteed to arrive in time for Time Trials.
  • The design of this suit is substantially different from past season's suits.  Your swimmer is not required to purchase a new suit and plenty of swimmers will be wearing previous years' designs.
  • Little Rays do not need a team suit as these are only worn during meets.

Benicia Stingrays New Family Welcome & Information Session

  • Open to new families only
  • New Little Rays do not need to attend, as the majority of this meeting will be geared towards competitive team information.
  • Meet Coach Steve, Team President, and Volunteer Coordinators to collect information and get your questions answered!
  • Thursday, March 26: 7:00 – 8:00 PM

Core Positions (new position added!):  Remember if you sign up, this fulfills your entire meet AND social volunteer requirement for the season.  It does not fulfill any invitational/league meet volunteer requirements.

  • Thank you to all of you who have agreed to come back in your core position role!  We can't do it without you!
  • We have a few positions we still need to fill.
    • 6/Unders Boys' Shepherd
    • 6/under Girls' Shepherd
      • If you have a 6/under, please consider signing up to be a shepherd.  The 6/unders require a lot of hand holding to get them to the correct lane during meets.  The coaches are busy coaching so we need your help to deliver the littles to the correct location.
      • This is a great job for parents of littles as you can be with your swimmer for the entire meet!
    • Meet Starter
      • This is for home meets (including Time Trials) only!
      • Announce each event/heat, blow the whistle to prepare the swimmers, and press the little buzzy button to start each race.
      • This is a fun and relatively low stress job and you have the best seat in the house!
    • Knightrays Coordinator
      • The Knightrays are our team spirit club.  It was started several years ago by Coach Mariska to connect the older swimmers with the younger kids, and it has unified the team in so many ways.
      • Once the summer season starts, The Knightrays (13/up swimmers) meet weekly to not so secretly design good luck posters for the 12/under swimmers for our League Championship Meet.  These posters are delivered to the 12/unders to their homes the week of League Meet.
      • We are looking for a parent and older swimmer to help organize this program.  You need to coordinate (and likely host) weekly meetings (historically Thursdays from 4:00-6:00, but this would be up to you).  If you can find other families to volunteer their home, you can divide up hosting duties.  You also need to stay on top of which swimmers are registered for League Meet so that no swimmer is excluded.  You need to make sure the Knightrays stay on task and finish their posters by the deadline.  You need to organize delivery of posters to the younger swimmers (either to their houses or, if not possible, at the pool during practice).  If you are interested, reply to this email and Jill Magno can discuss the position in more depth with you.
      • The older kids really love their weekly hang out and the younger kids really love receiving and hanging their posters at League Champs.  For this program to continue, we need someone to step up.

Age Group Parent Coordinator

  • Each age group (combined boys/girls) needs a parent to coordinate a gift basket that we will raffle off at the end of the season.  This parent should collect cash donations from their age group families and put together a basket worth at least $100.
  • This age group parent may (not must) coordinate age group outings (funded by the families) to picnics in the park, pizza outings, movies, etc.
  • So far, we have:
    • 6/unders:  Claire Schwartz (Audrey and Harrison)
    • 7/8's: Tammy Vidhyarkorn (Everly and Jaden)
    • 9/10's:  Open
    • 11/12's:  Open
    • 13/14's:  Open
    • 15-18's:  Jill Magno (Evan)
  • If you are a parent of an open age group, please reach out if you can fill this role.  This will fulfill your social volunteer requirement for the season.

New Competitive Stingray Tryouts Reminder

  • NEW 10/unders to COMPETITIVE Team (NOT Little Rays) must attend tryouts and swim 25 yards (one length) independently and safely across the pool.
  • Thursday, March 19th from 4:30-5:30.
  • Come in a suit with hair pulled back, goggles, towel, and cap if desired.
