Open Board Meeting Is Tonight; Open Board Positions

Benicia Stingrays

Open Board Meeting

  • Please come to the board meeting tonight (Tuesday, July 14th) at the Community Center at 6:30 PM.  This is our annual open board meeting and we welcome all families to attend and discuss their concerns, meet the board members, bring up new ideas, etc.  Tell us what you like and what you think needs tweaking!

Open Board Positions

  • We have one open board position that needs immediate filling and we have one board position that will need a shadow next year (2027), to fully take over for the 2028 season.
  • Being on the board requires you to attend monthly board meetings year-round, and to fulfill your specific board duties.  This is a great way to have a say in the team AND it is a great way to not have to time at meets or scoop ice cream at social events!  Board members are still required to volunteer at invitationals, League Champs, and County Champs if their swimmer participates in these meets.  That being said, we do want folks who are fully committed to the job. In all seriousness, being on the board is much more work than timing at a meet and scooping ice cream at a couple of social events, so please be fully committed if you agree to take on a role.
  • This is your chance to give back to the team!  So many of our kids are on swim team for YEARS.  This is a fundamental part of their core childhood memories.  This is your chance to have a say in the team, get to know the coaches, fulfill your volunteer hours, and be more involved with your kids' events!
  • Board positions are a minimum of a 2-year commitment. Please do not take a position if you can not commit to a minimum of 2 years

Social Director

  • We are looking for a Social Director now, to help organize the end-of-year Awards Ceremony and to take over next year in all aspects of the Social Director position.
  • The Social Director should be organized and fun!  You will plan and organize the season-opening welcome party, Family Fun Night, the July 3rd Torchlight Parade, Spirit Week/Coaches' Appreciation Week, and the Awards Ceremony. The current board members can help guide you in your role.  We have the contacts, know where everything is stored, and have the general outline for the events.  We won't leave you hanging out to dry!  And, you are welcome to make these events your own and update them as you see fit!

Communication Director

  • This is a big role.  It is one of the most critical positions in maintaining smooth team function. You should be very organized and able to function independently.  You must keep track of all deadlines and upcoming events because these need to be communicated to the membership promptly and without oversight from the President, Meet Director, etc.
  • The Communication Director keeps the website up to date, composes and sends out all of the NewsSplashes, and replies to all general team emails. You also work directly with our Social Media Director to request social media posts as needed.  You don't have to know the answer to every email that comes to you, but you need to be comfortable asking the appropriate board member or coach for help to get the answers you need.  You need to be comfortable communicating with everyone on the board, and all of the coaches, and you need to be comfortable being pleasantly persistent to get answers as needed. All incoming emails should be answered promptly (less than 24 hours turnaround time) and in a professional and friendly manner.  As you are the face of the team, you need to constantly stay on top of emails.
  • Good grammar is a plus!  At least 1-2 years of experience on the team is necessary, and it is helpful if your swimmer attends the majority of the meets and social events.  Attending invitationals is a huge bonus, but not absolutely required.  If you don't attend the invitationals and other events, it will be difficult for you to communicate effectively about them.
  • We are looking for a shadow for the 2027 season, and this person should be able to independently take over for the 2028 season.  I (Jill Magno) will work with you all next season to ensure you are comfortable with the position. I have no computer background, and I find the website to be straightforward to update.  After 10 years in this role, I only have 16-year-old Evan left on the team.  He is going to graduate soon, so we need to get some new blood trained and into this position!

Please reply to this email if you are interested in either of these roles.
